Long-acting opioids—Chronic pain.
Long-acting opioids should only be prescribed by a physician who is familiar with its risks and use, and who is prepared to conduct the necessary careful monitoring. Special attention should be given to patients who are initiating such treatment. The physician prescribing long-acting opioids should have a one-time completion of at least four hours of continuing education relating to this topic.
