Are there limits to the equine therapy I may receive?
The following limits apply to your receipt of equine therapy:
(1) Support needs for equine therapy are limited to those identified in your DDA assessment and documented in the person-centered service plan.
(2) The department requires a written recommendation from a behavioral health or related provider. The recommendation must include a description of your need for the service and take into account that the service is expected to complement the existing behavioral health support plan.
(3) DDA may require a second opinion by the department-selected provider.
(4) Equine therapy services must not exceed the CIIBS combined specialized-hourly services allocation of $5,000 per waiver year.
(5) Equine therapy services must not be used to provide hippotherapy, which is an occupational therapy service.
(6) The department reserves the right to terminate the authorization for equine therapy services if there is not a demonstrable improvement in behavior as documented by the contracted equine therapist or other treatment provider.
